What our Parents and Students are saying...

How do I say this without getting emotional?

I can't. You have helped our family in so many ways. You don't stop helping or teaching when you leave the studio. Tobie started Tri-Star just after his father passing away. His confidence level was low, he was acting out in class, and his grades could have been better.

Within the first three months of being at the studio, his teacher called me in for a meeting and said to me that she didn't know what I was doing at home, but to keep it up. She said his school work had improved 200%, he no longer was disrespectful, and she said his confidence level had much improved.

Tobie is now in fourth grade and is a straight A student and in the gifted program. He respects you so much. He cares what you think of him in the studio and out.

Tobie and Taryn lost their step-father last year. You cared so much about our family that you came and spent time with Kim in the hospital and also came out to the house and visited with him and I. Kim also had much respect for you.

You have done wonderful things for our family that I can not truly thank you enough for. Thank you for having a huge impact on our family's lives.
God Bless,

"I believe attending Tri Star Martial arts has helped my 9 year old son Noah in his focus..."

Although this has always been a challenge for him, little by little he is improving. He has also gained flexiblilty and strength with the physical workout. He also enjoys a feeling of pride at what he can accomplish. Also Noah has gained strength and muscle from his training at Tri-Star as well.

"Both of our children have benefitted greatly..."

Julia and Joe have benefitted greatly from their martial arts experiences at Tri-Star.

Julia has gained confidence, but most importantly the ability to defend herself if ever the need should arise. As parents it's easier making decisions about letting her attend events, movies or even walking the mall with her friends knowing that she'll be able to take care of herself.

Julia's babysitting clients also feel more confident when their children are in Julia's care.

An unexpected benefit from her marital arts training was her increased speed and strength. This increased her performance in softball and other sports. There is so much concern with children being out of shape, martial arts is great excercise and has helped Julia keep in shape during the off season.

Joe has gained self confidence and his large and fine motor skills have improved greatly. Joe has been diagnosed with neurological delays that affect his balance and coordination.

Mr. Brumitt has been very cooperative in adapting the program to Joe's limitations to make sure that he is successful. We have seen great improvement in this area and

Joe is actually accomplishing things he shouldn't be able to do according to the doctors.

We are very happy with our Tri-Star experience. We know that we have started our children in a program that will last a lifetime. The benefits they have received are priceless.

"Our daughters are more outgoing & respectful..."

Marilyn is in the Fittness Kickboxing. She's 16, so she won't admit she love her class. But she complains if she has to miss her training on Monday and Wednesday.

Our daughter Julie. Julie was born cross-eyed. She's had three eye sergeries to fix her eyes. The Doctors told us, that she would have problems with her eye/hand quaodenation all of her life.

She is also ADHD and is on medication. But since we've had Julie in Tri-Star, We've cut back on her medication.

Julie is more focused on everything she does. Friends and Family member that haven't seen Julie in awhile keep telling us how much Julie's changed. She's more Happy and out going.

And that leaves our youngest daughter, Josie. Josie just loves going to Tri-Star, if she has to miss coming to her class, She gets upset. She rather come to Tri-Star, than do anything else.

When the other kids at school talk about TV shows they watched ofter school, she tells them she didn't watch because she was at Karate. And she really loves it.

When people say, "this is a God send" and "That is a God send". The only thing I think about is Tri-Star. Because it trully is a God send for my Wife and Myself. God bless you.

Sincerly yours,

"Partrick looks forward to going to karate..."

Click to listen:

He tells all his friends at school how great and fun it is for him.

Patrick loves to practice everything that he learns in class, EVEN the stuff that Mr. Brumitt talks about as in like strangers or just saying no. Which I think is wounderful!!!

Patrick has learned that he doesn't have to do everything that everyone else is doing and just be himself which we were really having a hard time with.

I'm sure as time goes on Patrick will learn other things from karate that will help him in his everyday life!!

Thanks a million!!!

By: Tishia Stuck Dedicated to: Master Brumitt

Once you get to know Master Brumitt a few of his qualities that stand out are his honesty, seriousness, discipline, trustworthiness, and honorableness. Master Brumitt is an important person to me because he has helped me in many ways. Although his "title" is Master Brumitt (because he's a master black belt) he prefers that we call him Mr.Brumitt. The reason he prefers that we call him Mr.Brumitt instead of Master Brumitt is because most people misinterpret what we mean when we say Master Brumitt. One way that Master Brumitt has helped me is physically. He has helped me physically by having us do physical activities in class and by discussing it together as a class as to why it's so important to exercise and stay healthy. This has inspired me so much that now I exercise at home just for the fun of it. Master Brumitt has also helped me mentally by giving me courage and helping me believe in myself. He has lots of knowledge to share with all of his students. When I first started karate I was very shy, I wouldn't talk to anyone that I didn't know. The way that Master Brumitt has helped me conquer my shyness is by showing me that you can't be shy if you want to be leader. You need to be able to speak up so you can tell other people your good ideas, listen to their good ideas, and put them together to get great ideas. I had no self-discipline at all. Master Brumitt has taught me to be very disciplined. When you learn "self"-discipline your also learning self-government. He's taught me this by telling us how being disciplined can help us now and in the long run. One of his favorite sayings is "Do what you oughta do when you oughta do it so you can do what you wanna do when you wanna do it". Another thing that he says a lot is "Practice makes permanent not perfect". Another thing that I lacked was coordination, Master Brumitt helped me in this way. Most of the stuff that we work on in class has to do with coordination. Two of my favorite games that we play in class every once in a while are called The Wall of China and Chinese Stars. Both of these games use a lot of coordination; to get better at the game you need to practice your coordination skills. My coordination is getting a lot better now that I'm in karate. Master Brumitt may sound mean from what I've told you so far but he really isn't. He may be serious and strict about the rules and "self"-discipline but that doesn't mean that he is mean. He's really compassionate, loving, and funny at the same time. A way that Master Brumitt shows that he's loving and compassionate is how he acts towards us and by what he says to us. He cares about how we treat ourselves, others, other people's property, how much, and what we learn. He's always saying "Garbage in garbage out". If he sees someone misbehaving or disrespecting other people he has a talk about it with that person, but he'll also talk to the whole class about it (without telling us who was doing it). Master Brumitt can also be funny if he wants to. I love the way he jokes around with people. Sometimes when he's joking around he looks and sounds serious, I like seeing the faces of some of the people when they find out that he's only joking with them. Master Brumitt can make me smile no matter what kind of day I'm having whether it's a really bad day or a really good day. I always count on Master Brumitt to brighten up my day. Sometimes it's his irresistible smile, or something he says. He's always saying that I'm just an accident waiting too happen. I'm glad that Master Brumitt is in my life to help me in so many ways. He's already helped me in so many ways that I'm not sure how I'm ever going to repay him and show him my gratitude. I'm sure he still has a lot of advice to give to others and me.

"I am a stay-at-home mom of 4 boys..."

Click to listen:

I began karate because it was an activity for me to do outside the house(as I am a stay-at-home mom of 4 boys). But it has become so much more than I would have imagined.

I chose karate because it was something I always wanted to try. I also wanted to go with one of my boys. My 13-year old began with me. When I began I expected to learn self-defense and get some exercise.

One thing that surprised me is what a great stress reliever classes are. When your mind is focused on classes you don't have time to think about anything but what you are doing. I have not found this to be true with any other activity I have ever done.

I love how the classes are taught. All the instructors are excellent in many aspects.

Beyond self-defense, I love the moral values and lifelessons that are taught. Not realizing it when I began, I am so glad that we are involved with a Christian studio. It helps to tie all aspects of life together to keep the balance needed.

I am most impressed with the improvements in my 5-year old. Before he began karate he did not have the focus, attentionspan, and listeningskills that he does now. I am amazed at how well he does in class.

In talking with people at the studio and as a mom watching class, I find there is a family atmosphere at Tri-Star. People are friendly and so encouraging to the kids. Everyone seems to get along well and make you feel comfortable while you are there. If you need help, someone is always there.

What I have enjoyed the most is having a common interest with my boys. It gives us something to talk about. We have fun together practicing at home. Even the rest of the family joins in. I believe it has bound us closer together.

Tri-Star is a great studio with wonderful instructors that I would highly recommend to everyone.

"With the martial arts & improving his grades, I see him smile a lot more..."

My stepson, Joshua, has a learning disability that really makes learning a challenge for him in school. This also had lead to behavioral and self-esteem problems.

This last December, his school work was at its worse and he was getting in trouble weekly at school either for fighting or goofing off. We were running out of options about how to work with Joshua on his school and anger problems.

We were really worried about his future and what it would hold for him.

My older son took martial arts when he was a teen and I saw how it increased his confidence, self-control and self-esteem. (By the way he's a police officer now and still uses the training he learned in martial arts.) Since my son had so much success, we gave Tri-Star Martial Arts a shot.

Joshua has been at Tri-Star for about 4 months now and he hasn't had one poor progress report sent home (which we received weekly before) and he is controlling his anger much better according to his teachers.

With the martial arts and improving grades, I see him smile a lot more and I believe his self image is improving too. Mr. Brummitt and his staff really care about their students and they have a great rapport with them.

My only regret is that we didn't start Joshua in martial arts a long time ago. But, we are confident he is on the right track now.

Even when he did relapse (just once), Mr. Brummitt spent personal time with him discussing the importance of setting goals and working to achieve them.

I can honestly say that Mr. Brummitt and Tri-Star are giving Joshua an opportunity to make the changes he needs to lead a happy and productive life.

I have been very pleased...

Click to listen:

My grandson has been training in the martial arts at Tri-Star under Duane Brumitt for the past five years.

I have been very pleased with the changes I continually see in him. Not only has he learned  to be more physicallyfit, but Master Brumitt and his staff has taught him to be more disciplined, respectful, and have a higher level of selfesteem.

I have witnessed Master Brumitt awarding students for academic achievements. His spiritual concern for the students and their families is a great encouragement to help make positive changes for their future.

I feel having our grandson participate at Tri-Star is a positive step for his future.

It has been priceless...

Click to listen:

My family and I have been with Duane Brumitt at Tri-Star Martial Arts for approximately five years. In that five year time frame, only we have learned an awful lot from Duane Brumitt and his staff at Tri-Star.

My son is 10 years old and will be testing for his first degree black belt in June of 2006. That is a very exciting time for the entire family.

Some of the things we've learned at Tri-Star are how to encourage other individuals, how to encourage your own child, and the self-defense techniques have been phenomenal.

I travel a lot and I travel alone, so the self-defense techniques that I've learned have given me the confidence I need to walk through an airport or to walk to my car, and I realize what the barriers are and how to protect myself. It has been priceless.

The self defense and self discipline that it has taught my children is also very comforting. It's very good to know that they've got what it's going to take to defend themselves as much as they are capable of if anything terrible would ever happen to them.

The encouragement that has been taught to them over the years is also priceless. They've learned how to encourage themselves, encourage other students, and even how to encourage adults when they've had a bad day. This is a very unique thing they have learned from Duane Brumitt and for that, I thank him very much.

We are very excited. My family has very strong values, and we continue to build on those values with our friends that we have at Tri-Star, and we encourage others to do the same. Thank you very much.

He has gone from making C's and D's in school to making A's and B's...

Tri-Star Martial Arts has been a wonderful experience for my son Jonathan.

He has ADHD, and he wasn't doing very well in school. We investigated martial arts for him so he could learn to focus his energy in a more productive direction and since he has joined Tri-Star he has improved in his grades.

He has gone from making C's and D's in school to making A's and B's. He's able to sit in his seat and concentrate on the things he has to do. He has also developed a more polite and focused mannerism about him.

He will do the things he's been asked without to do. Without question he is more respectful and polite to adults.

He appreciates going to Tri-Star because he sees it as a privilege. It has been a wonderful asset for him. My husband and I are so grateful for this opportunity that he has had in order to be a student at Tri-Star.

Master Brumitt has been a wonderful example for him. He walks around the house quoting things Master Brumitt has said to him, and the positive things he's learned in class.

He's now teaching his baby sister those same principles. It fills our hearts with goodness toward this program.

I would admonish any parent who would like their child to be in a Christian atmosphere. who will be taught not only how to focus their energy in a more positive direction, but also to appreciate and love the Lord at the same time to invest in Tri-Star.

Winning is not the most important thing, but doing...

Click to listen:

My family and I have been part of Tri-Star for the past 4 ½ years and I can truly say that being a soccer dad and a basketball dad and recognizing the different sporting events that our kids can be a part of, the health of our children, the self confidence, and the ability for them to rise to the challenge has been exemplified at Tri-Star Martial Arts Academy in Bradley.

They have really taken the kids to the level of understanding that winning is not the most important thing, but doing their best and the pride that we see in them is really a blessing from God.

We appreciate that Tri-Star allows us to do these testimonials because this is just one way that we can try and thank the crew at the martial arts studio for the love and the guidance that they help us raise our children in.

We wish them all the best and know that God will continue to bless them as they look to Him for their strength. Thank you for this opportunity.

I have seen improvements in his self esteem...

Austin enjoys your school tremendously and looks forward to the classes.

I have seen improvements in his self esteem. I see him getting his homework done and getting his chores done. He shows a little more respect to himself and to others, which is something he didn't do before.

Mr. Russow is an excellent instructor and I can see he brings out the best in his students. I can see that only positive things will come from this connection.

Thank you, Mr. Brumitt.
